This dance is dedicated to Marlene Davidson for whose pupils at Bateau Bay School, the dance was devised.
Part 1 : Bateau Bay on a Fine Day
1 - 8 All circle round and back (sun shining)
9 -16 Corners wheel round and back. i.e. couples 1 & 8, 2 & 3, 4 & 5, 6 & 7 form wheels. (school bus)
17-20 Line A making arches, change places with line C passing right shoulders (line C go under arches)
21-24 Lines B and D repeat (line B making arches)
25-28 Repeat 17-20 but pass left shoulders (i.e. go under the same arch as before)
29-32 Repeat 21-24 but pass left shoulders (that represents surfers, or swimmers, getting dunked by waves.)
33- 40 All turn partners right hand then left hand. (meeting up at school)
Part 2 : Bateau Bay on a Stormy Day!
1 - 4 Couples 1 & 5 change places with slip steps, making a ½ turn as they get there (to bring girl to correct side of partner. Boys pass back to back as in La Tempete)
5 - 8 Couples 2 & 6 repeat 1-4
9 -12 Couples 3 & 7 repeat 1-4
13-16 Couples 4 & 8 repeat 1-4
17-24 Girls cast to original places (clockwise)
25-32 Boys cast to original places (anti-clockwise)
33-34 All join hands, advance, raise hands and "whoop" (waves being dashed against rock)
35-36 All retire
37-40 All advance with 4 skip change to next side of the square (going clockwise)
Repeat three times more if not too exhausted!
